"Chakrata" is around 98 kilometers away from the capital city Dehradun of Uttarakhand. The region is perched at a height of about 7000 ft above the sea level. Formally the town was known as Jaunsarbawar, a small village of Jaunsari tribe. This beautiful hamlet is located between the Yamuna and Tons River. The stunning town is surrounded by rhododendron and Oak trees. Chakrata is blessed with the natural beauties and panoramic view. The eastern side of the region is occupied by the magnificent hilly town of Mussoorie. While the west is, Kaleidoscopic Kinnaur, Foreigners are not allowed into the cantonment of military of Chakrata. Cool but pleasant climate of this region makes the stay here more enjoyable. The sloppy regions of this picturesque town are an ideal destination for trekking and skiing.

Main Attractions: -

Ram Tal Garden in Chakrata: Is located at a distance of 9 kilo meters from the town. It is a perfect place for picnic. Tourists and locals both visit the site with their families while their vacation. Besides that locals every day come at this site to enjoy. The sport is located at the Chakrata-Mussoorie road. The garden is around 30 meter long and 20 meter wide area.

Tiger fall in Chakrata: Is a magnificent water fall, situated 5 kilo meters away from Chakrata. The water of the fall falls from a height of 50 meters and turns into a small pond touching the ground. The pond gives a wonderful view. The tiger fall is viewed at the north-east side of Chakrata. The fall is perched at an elevation of 1395 meters above the sea level.

Lakhamandal in Chakrata: The place has immense importance mythological and historical as well. The site is 35 kilo meters away from Chakrata on Mussoorie-Yamunotri road. The name of the site is derived from the Hindu epic Mahabharata. The legends of the Hindu religion say that the Kauravas made their shelter here.

Moigad fall in Chakrata: Is on Delhi-Yamunotri road, about 69 kilo meter from the capital city Dehradun. The most exciting thing is to enjoy the bathe at the bottom of the fall. This water fall attracts thousands of tourists throughout the year across India. Taking a bathe in the water of the fall gives a unique experience to the visitors.

Deoban in Chakrata: Is situated in the beautiful hilly terrains of Chakrata. From this place tourist can completely see the ranges of might Himalaya. Deoban is sited at an elevation of 2,200 meters above the sea level. The area is well circled by the dense deodar forests. In the forest, different types of birds and animals live here. These animals also attract the tourist to visit the side. While visiting Chakrata tourist never forget to come at this place.

Chilmiri Neck in Chakrata: Is believed as one of the most attractive and main attractions in the area. The region is very popular among the people for the military cantonments and quarters. The cantonment is settled among the green forests. A variety of colorful butterflies and birds are seen here. Tourist can easily view the mountain of Swargarohini and Bandarpoonch from the site. So, in Chakrata it is a huge destination for tourists to visit the area.

How to Reach Chakrata

By Air:- The nearest airport to the town is Jolly Grant about 115 kilo meters away from the region. Jolly grant is a domestic airport well connected with Delhi airport. Delhi airport is an international airport and well linked with major cities in abroad as well. Tourist from outside the country can easily reach the town via Delhi-Jolly grant to Chakrata. Delhi and Chandigarh is well connected with regular flights with Chakrata. Taxis are available at the airport to Chakrata covering a 3-hour distance.

By Road:- Motorable roads connect Chakrata with many cities in Uttarakhand and outside the state as well. Buses are available from ISBT Kashmir Gate to Mussoorie and Chakrata. Buses from Mussoorie and Dehradun district are also available to Chakrata. Chakrata also well connected with Himachal Pradesh by roads via Paonta Sahib. Chakrata is around 311 kilo meters away from Delhi the distance can be covered by 8 hours of traveling.

By Train:- The nearest railhead is located in the capital city Dehradun. The distance between railway station and Chakrata town is around 87 kilo meters. It is easily accessible from Dehradun town. Taxis and buses are availed from Dehradun to Chakrata. One can hire a taxi or can share with other passengers which will cost you less amount. Dehradun is the capital of Uttarakhand State. So, most of the well known cities of the country are frequent to Dehradun station. Particularly, Shatabdi and Mussoorie express connect Dehradun to major cities of India. Railway networks connect the town with such cities like, Howrah, Delhi, Bombay, Varanasi, Lucknow and Amritsar.

Though there are not many shopping places or shops in Chakrata but one can get pretty good bargains at comparatively low prices here. There are various decorative items, brass items and other kind of metal utensils which are quite popular among the visitors.
