"Dehradun" is the capital of Uttarakhand. This beautiful City is known as the gateway to Mussoorie and the Garhwal interiors. The town is also known for being one of the most ancient in India. Before the city came under the ruling of the British government, it was ruled by the Mughals, Sikhs and Gurkhas.The holy River Ganga and Yamuna crisscross city quite beautifully. Dehradun was a division of Uttar Pradesh, before the existence of Uttarakhand.Dehradun used to be a quiet, small valley town, which is famous for its educational and research institutes such as the Forest research institute, the survey of India, Rastriya Indian Military and Indian Military academy.

Robbers Cave in Dehradun: This is the perfect picnic place for locals and tourists. Robbers cave is just 8 kilometer from city centre and 1 kilo meter away from a hamlet Anarwala. There is a stream which flows underground and mysteriously appears again a few meters off. The cave presents a spectacle view as it is walled by the hills from all around.

Malsi Deer Park in Dehradun: This Park is on the way to Mussoorie, 10 kilo meter from Dehradun, the capital city of Uttarakhand. This is a new park located in the foot of the Shivalik ranges. A cool and calm picnic destination where one can see the beautiful deer, neelgai, ducks, and birds and so on. Tourists while going to the Mussoorie take a short break at this location before moving on to Himalayan. Malsi deer park also attracts people a lot.

Sahastradhara in Dehradun: It is one of the most popular tourist place in Dehradun. It is a Sulphur sprig, located at the distance of about 14 kilometer from Dehradun city centre. It is created by the Baldi River. The Sahastradhara, literally means ‘Thousands fold spring’ is well known for its therapeutic qualities. It is also gives the panoramic view of the Baldi River and surrounding caves.

TapkeshwarMahadev Temple in Dehradun: It is situated outside the Dehradun city. The sacred temple is positioned just 5.5 kilo meters from the city centre. The temple is can be viewed on the banks of a seasonal river. The dome is devoted to the Lord Shiva the Hindus God. The name of the temple is a derivation of a Hindi word "Tapak", which stands for "to drip". There is a shivling inside the cave which water naturally drips on from its roof.

Tiger Falls in Dehradun: Tiger Falls is about the distance of 5 kilometers from Chakrata. It is a beautiful water fall, falling from a height of 50 meters converging into a small pond which creates an enchanting effect in the scenic surroundings. It is one of the most popular place in Dehradun.

Mindrolling Monastery in Dehradun: Mindrolling Monastery houses one of the world’s largest stupa, about 185 feet high and 100 square feet wide. Ngagyur Nyingma College which is one of the largest Buddhist learning centers in India is situated within the monastery. The Mindrolling Monastery was built in 1964.

Shakya Centre in Dehradun: It is Located 12 kilo meter away from Dehradun city. This is a Tibetan Temple which is popularly famous as "Shakya Centre". The temple is beautifully colored from all sides. A few meters from the Tibetan Gompa there is a Tibetan medicine center. A small group of Tibetans are now living here.

Rajaji National Park in Dehradun: The Park is located at the distance of 26 kilometer from the city centre of Dehradun. And spread over 820 square kilometers. The park is shared 3 districts of UttarakhandPauriGarhwal, Dehradun and Haridwar. The park is surrounded by tropical moist broadleaf forests and it houses a various types of flora and fauna. It is the major habitat of the Bengal Tiger and the Asian elephant in India.
