One of the best things about Joshimath is that it is counted among the four maths set up back in the 8th century by Adi Guru Shri Shankaracharya.

The Temple Of Narsimha in Joshimath: This magnificent temple is honored to Lord Narshimha. It is an avatar of Lord Vishnu. It is famous that an arm of the idol of the God is deemed to be considered as becoming smaller each passing day. It is also believed that when the arm is completely breaks off the road to Badrinath will permanently be blocked. As it is an incarnation of Lord Vishnu tourists visit the site in large around the year.

Narsingh Temple in Joshimath: This an old shrine situated in Joshimath devoted to NarsinghDevta. This site is also the home for Shri Badrinathji in the month of winters. The idol of the God Narshing is decreasing in size every day. It is believed that when the statue will fall the route to Badrinath will be permanently closed by a land slide. This is one of the incarnations of Lord Vishnu. It is a must destination for the pilgrims and devotees who come here each year.

Nanda Devi Park in Joshimath: Is around 23 kilo meters away from Joshinath. The Park was developed in the year 1982. It was also announced as the World Heritage Site by UNESCO in the year of 1988. The park occupies an area of around 630.33 sq km. during April to October the atmosphere stays pleasant. So during these months one can visit the location as a picnic spot.

Ghangaria in Joshimath: Is a hamlet placed at a distance of 23.5 kilo meter from Joshimath. Locally the area is popular by the name of GovindDham. If you are making atrip to Ghangaria it will be better to visit in May and October. During the month of winters the area receives heavy snowfall. People stay here who come here for trekking to the Valley of Flowers and Hemkund Sahib.

Kalpavriksha in Joshimath: It is a tree which is believed to be about 1200 years old. This tree is counted among the oldest trees in the country. It is believed that the place was used by Adi Guru Shankaracharya for meditation. The circumference of the tree is noticed around 21.5 meters. There is also a cave where AdiShankaracharya lived in.

Govind Ghat in Joshimath: Is located at a distance of 18.7 kilo meters away from Joshimath. The ghat is situated on the banks of the River Alaknanda. The place is also very popular for its famous religious destination, Hemkund Sahib. The exact meaning of the term Hemkund is "Lake of snow". It is also conceived that the place has been the place of meditating of Guru Gobind Singh. The site comprises of a temple and a gurudwara. The temple is dedicated to Lord Lakshman.

How to Reach Joshimath

By Air:- Jolly Grant Airport lies at 270 km from Joshimath. If you prefer travelling by air, you can take flight to this domestic airport located in the city of Dehradun.

By Road:- If you are starting from Delhi, it's advisable to reach Rishikesh first. Rishikesh is also well connected via road network to different parts of the country. There are regular state owned and private buses running to Joshimath from key destinations around the state of Uttarakhand. Joshimath is easily reached from places like Pauri, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Rishikesh and Srinagar among others.

By Train:- Rishikesh, which is the closest railway station, is around 250 km from Joshimath. As you might know, Rishikesh is very well connected by rail route with all the popular tourist destinations of India. So, you can arrive at Rishikesh by train and cover the remaining distance by road (via cab).
