"New Tehri" town is very attractive as it is built at the meeting points of the Bhagirathi and Bhilangna. It is the district headquarters of TehriGarhwal district, located at 16 kilometers from Old Tehri. It is the only well planned city of Uttarakhand. The most popular tourist attraction of this town is Tehri Dam. To build the Dam at Tehri was not safe enough. This was the main reason to develop New Tehri. Population of town was shifted too to New Tehri for people safety. The site become as popular as it was protested against by the Sundarlal Bahuguna with their followers at the time of Chipko Movement. The area of Tehri Dam where the lake located is the largest Lake in Asia which is made by man power and is about 260 meters deep in the water.

Buda Kedar Temple in New Tehri: There is a small village 60km away from New Tehri where the Buda Kedar Temple is located. The location of temple is magnificent as it is situated at the confluence of the river Bal Ganga and Dharam Ganga. It is said by the legends that Duryodhna meditated here after the war of Kurukshetra.
Narendra Nagar in New Tehri: Is located about 14 kilo meters from Muni-ki-Reti. The area is perched at a height of 1129 meters above the sea level. The beautiful site provides majestic views of Ganga and Doon Valley. Tourist particularly visits the site to see the view of sun set.
SemMukhem in New Tehri: It is a domestic area inside the district which is elevated at an altitude of 2903 meters above the sea level. The shrine of Nag Raja at this place is honored extreme by the local inhabitants. The temple is located atop of the hill, at a distance of around 5 kilo meters from Mukhem town. Mukhem is about 2 kilo meters from Khamba Khal.
Khatling Glacier in New Tehri: It is the perfect and very popular trekking destination for trekking lovers in Tehri District. The area is situated 62 meters away from New Tehri. Trekking to this way begins from Ghuttu. There are many other small villages by passing through this way like Gangi, Reeh, Kalyani and Bhomakgufta. Gangi is the last town among these villages.
Tehri Dam in New Tehri: Is one of the main attractions offered by Tehri-Garhwal. Tehri Dam, built across River Bhagirathi, is located in the Himalayan foothills on the Central Himalayan Seismic Gap. The dam is considered among the world's largest hydroelectric projects.
