Two of the most revered rivers of the India that is Ganga and Yamuna originated here. Holy Ganga River is originated from Gaumukh (Gangotri) and Yamuna River is from Yamunotri. The most important pilgrimage destination incorporates Shri Badrinath and Shri Kedarnath, the holy seats of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva respectively. The State is also known for “Chota Char Dham” Yatra as it is the one of the most important pilgrimage for Hindus, as per Hindu mythology, the famous saint Adi Shankracharya had laid the foundation stone holy shrines of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath & Badrinath during 8th century.

Kumbh Mela is one of the largest fairs of the world held here. It is a month long fair and is attended by millions of pilgrims from all over India as well as the devout from the world over. It is held every three years in a rotation at Haridwar, Allahabad, Ujjain and Nasik as per the traditional calendar during January - February.
